Barbara Jo Skilton Fougeron

February 3, 1967 - July 4, 2013

I, Barbara Jo Fougeron, 46, passed away July 4, 2013 from lung cancer. I refuse to call it a valiant fight because it wasn’t. I fought to have more time with my husband and soul mate, Jim Fougeron. I fought to have more time with my amazing son, David Dennis and wonderful daughter, Kristen Fougeron. I wanted to spend time with my beautiful daughter-in-law, Sara Dennis and the most perfect grandson, Oliver Dennis. I fought because my parents, Dave and Bunnie Skilton, shouldn’t have to bury their child. I fought for my sisters, Michelle Niles and Elizabeth Skilton because it has always been the three of us.

I fought because I didn’t have a choice. Lung cancer does not discriminate. Anyone can get it.

The Remembrance/Farewell Gathering on July 27 at the Aksarben Aquarium south of Gretna, will begin at 11 am and will continue throughout the day and evening. Memorials are being directed to the Barbara Skilton Fougeron Foundation for Outdoor Youth

From Barbara's sister, Shelly Skilton Niles '83

My sister and best friend Barb passed away last night. I don't have any witty comment or words of wisdom to post, that would have been Barbs job which she did so well.

The following is her obituary that she wrote herself. My sister was the strongest bravest person I have ever known. My heart is broken and this hurts so much. I will miss her everyday and love her forever.

Back in April, Barb asked me, that when she died, to post her obituary... that she wrote . Her final months were spent taking care of every detail to try to spare her husband & loved ones this task. With her husband Jim's permission, I am deeply honored to be able to carry out the wishes of my remarkable friend.

Barb passed away peacefully last night at 10:30 pm. This picture was taken by her husband Jim, 6 days ago- a moment he captured with their grandson, Baby Oliver. Strength and comfort to all that knew and loved Barb.

Always & forever in our hearts-Rest In Peace Barb.
